Questions parents ask
My child knows letter sounds but can't blend — where do I start?
Start with simple CVC words (cat, pin, dog) and robot talk: say each sound slowly, then sweep them together fast. Slow, then fast — never fast and wrong. A few minutes a day usually unlocks it within a couple of weeks.
What order are phonics phases taught in?
Phase 2 first (first sounds and blending), then Phase 3 (digraphs like ch and sh), then Phase 4 (longer words with adjacent consonants). Follow your child's school order — the sequence matters more than the exact term.
Is phonics the same as reading?
Phonics is one half of reading: turning letters into sounds. The other half is understanding — vocabulary, stories and talking about books. Children need both, which is why our comprehension page sits alongside the phonics packs.
