LittleLearnersRepeating Patterns Pack
Spot it, say it, continue it: AB, AAB, ABB & ABC patterns
Overview
Eleven activity pages that build pattern-spotting step by step — the EYFS maths skill behind later algebra.\nContinue-the-pattern with colours and shapes, ABC patterns, spot-the-mistake, AAB and ABB patterns, make-your-own pages and a colour-by-key activity.\nSay-it-out-loud prompts on every page turn spotting into language — plus a Pattern Star certificate.
Is this the right pack for your child?
For 3–6 year olds — pattern-spotting is one of the earliest EYFS maths skills and the foundation of later algebra. Younger children copy and continue simple AB colour patterns; older ones tackle ABC, AAB and ABB, plus spotting deliberate mistakes. If your child is still learning shapes, the Shapes & Colours pack is the gentler start.
Torn between packs? still learning shapes? Start with shapes & colours.
What's inside
- 11 activity pages: what-is-a-pattern intro, AB colour and shape patterns, ABC patterns
- Spot-the-mistake pages, AAB and ABB patterns, make-your-own pattern grids
- Colour-by-key pattern page and two pattern challenges
- Say-it-out-loud prompts on every page — pattern language as well as maths
- Pattern Star certificate to celebrate at the end
How to use this pack at home
- Always say the pattern out loud together first — 'red, blue, red, blue' — hearing it makes the rule click.
- Start with the AB pages; only move to ABC once AB is automatic.
- For spot-the-mistake, let them find it themselves — resist pointing, the struggle is the learning.
- Spot patterns in real life too: fence posts, tiles, socks in the drawer.
